  • No, I am not a psychotherapist. Unlike psychotherapy, Parent Management Training (PMT) and Educational Therapy discuss the present— here and now.

My job is to help clients learn new behaviors and strategies to change current and future behavior. I do not analyze a persons thoughts, nor diagnose psychological issues. I do take a “snapshot” of a family/child’s current situation and develop (an implement) a support plan moving forward.

  • Executive functioning refers to an interrelated set of cognitive processes that govern goal-directed behavior. We use executive functioning skills every day to manage daily activities, learn, and work. Planning, managing time, keeping track of materials and tasks, maintaining focus, effectively processing information, adapting knowledge for particular situations, screening for errors, regulating emotions, and managing frustration are all key abilities that rely on executive functioning. Executive function skills are crucial inside and outside of the classroom.

  • Content tutoring, or academic tutoring, focuses on the “what,” as in what a student is trying to learn. Our tutors focus on the “how,” as in how the student learns and how to support that process. Often content tutoring isn’t successful because the content isn’t the problem. Instead, the student struggles with their approaches and the integration of information due to learning differences. We teach strategies and skill sets to help students strengthen their executive functioning skills to become more effective learners.

  • Parent Management Training is a series of sessions implementing evidence-based practices to reframe a families relationship with their child. These small modifications help parents learn about their child and guide their child’s behavior to change. It works best for children between the ages of 2-17 who have moderate to very severe behavioral difficulties and/or anxiety. Evidence and research has been completed at Yale University, and has helped help change the lives of thousands of families over the world.
